Adrienne Geoghegan and Mark Neiland introduce 'My Very Own Picture'.
A strong desire to provide fabulous art for children, that would engage and inspire, gave life to ‘My Very Own Picture’. We combined our exciting ideas, determination, and artistic backgrounds, and this led myself (Adrienne), and my husband Mark, commit to this 100%. I am a writer and illustrator of children’s picture books, and Mark is a photographer, so, for us this is a natural progression into something we love anyway. It is now our day job! Though it does run into nights and weekends too, we think it was a risk worth taking.
We design and manufacture our limited edition canvas prints especially for children from birth up, but some adults have been known to buy our prints for themselves! (We won’t mention names!) (See ‘Our Product Features’ under ‘Company Information’) Our pictures are painted by ourselves, plus other accomplished, award winning artists from all over the world. The artist, before printing, signs each original. The pictures are printed, one at a time, onto museum quality canvas and hand stretched onto deep stretcher bars. We use the Giclee method of printing, as this gives deep, saturated colours and excellent detail, making them hard to tell from the original painting.
Children like to know about who painted their picture, so we provide a short biography of the artist and self-portrait with their picture. Each print also comes with a unique, tamper proof, ‘Certificate of Authenticity’. Our editions are kept low, so no more than 250 for each design will ever be printed. This ensures our customers of the exclusivity of their individual print. Parents are also guaranteed safety. Because there is no glass to break, it makes it ideal in a child’s environment, providing a surface that children can touch. Some of our prints can be personalised with your children’s names or dates of birth. Colour is a major factor in all our work, and we have focused on the whimsical, the quirky and the nostalgic.
When our little son Oscar was born in February 2004, we filled our home with colourful art and photographs of all kinds. He now chats about what he sees in his pictures and they’re just as important to him as his toys, teddies and books. It’s no secret that 'pictures' will always challenge children to use their imagination. Through this they invent stories, and interpret their own meanings, while developing a love of art from an early age. We hope our art will inspire children to create their own stories and offer them a fresh perspective. They might see something new in a picture every day, and the absence of words can often encourage truly creative storytelling.
Our trademark of vivid colours, exquisite detail and limited editions, make ‘My Very Own Picture’ the first of it’s kind in Europe! Our end product is a timeless art keepsake with longevity way beyond the toddler years. We really hope you love our work as much as we love producing it!
